The Industrial Credit and Investment Corporation of India Limited (ICICI) was incorporated in 1955 by the Indian Government in association with world band and prominent business houses in India to promote business financing of large projects in India which was lacking in India and that time. ICICI as a financial institution then started provided finance to medium-term and long-term projects in India to promote private sector financing to Indian businesses. In 1994, ICICI jumped in the banking sector to providing banking services and established Banking Corporation as its subsidiary. Since then the name ICICI has become popular in the banking sector in India. So formerly known Industrial Credit and Investment Corporation of India as a full name is now named ‘ICICI Bank Limited’ and popularly known as ICICI bank.
Today ICICI bank is the largest private sector bank in India and is also expanding globally and has branches in major business cities across the world.
